John Adams (1735-1826) was the second president of the United States, born in Braintree (now Quincy), Massachusetts. Tufts (Harvard, A.M. 1749) studied medicine with his older brother Simon in Medford, Mass., and later established his own practice in Weymouth, Mass. In 1780 he was one of the incorporators of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the convention to adopt the Constitution of the U.S. Tufts was also an incorporator of the Massachusetts Medical Society in 1781, and served as its fourth president (1787-1795).
